Q: What is EmbracingSound™
A: EmbracingSound™ is the new stereo and surround technology that allows the listener to experience the spatial information from their recordings whether it is movies, high definition audio formats, or Mp3 files.
The technology comprises the speaker configuration where two or more speakers are positioned close together in a single unit, and an ingenious electronic compensation circuitry. Together they make the spatial information from the media to reach your ears.
The EmbracingSound™ technology is licensed by Embracing Sound Experience AB to manufacturers with products where the main part of the user experience is sound.
A manufacturer that holds a license from Embracing Sound Experience AB can manufacture and sell products with EmbracingSound™ technology onboard. Every manufactured model is certified by us to ensure that the spatial information of any recording will be conveyed to the listener as truthfully as possible only limited by the capabilities of the speaker drivers used.
EmbracingSound™ is a trademark owned by Embracing Sound Experience AB.
Q: How wide can the stereo spread be from a device with EmbracingSound™ onboard?
A: EmbracingSound™ does not make any spatial separation on its own so the spread depends solely on the recording. Mono in gets mono out, surround in gets surround out.
To explain it shortly, if you listen to an early stereo recording of Beatles, for instance “Lady Madonna” with drums to the left and horn section to the right, it matches two speakers spaced +- 30° and if you listen to another Beatles song “Love Me Do” that is a mono recording the sound will come only from the EmbracingSound™ speaker right in front of you. If the Lt Rt or ProLogic mode is used to down mix a 5.1 DVD movie you will get a surround sound experience with an outstanding envelopment that matches the sound experience only found in movie theatres.
In applications where the speakers are very small, as for example in a mobile phone, the separation is limited to +- 30° even if the recording holds wider spaced information.
If speaker drivers of the size commonly used in compact hifi system and above, it is possible to perceive a 240° sound stage, the bigger / the more efficient the loudspeakers the better. Yes that’s right, you can perceive sound that is totally embracing you. This is one of the reasons for the name of the technology, EmbracingSound™
Q: Does the technology require specific loudspeaker drivers?
A: No! The vast majority of speaker drivers can be used with the EmbracingSound™ technology. There are still recommendations of the speaker driver selection. Here are some brief guidelines:
- All common knowledge of speaker design is applicable to speakers that utilize the EmbracingSound™ technology.
- Any piston type loudspeaker drivers can be use with the EmbracingSound™ technology.
- Distributed mode loudspeakers or similar technologies are not possible to use.
- The speaker drivers must have separated resonating volumes. I.e. separate cavities for left and right side respectively.
- The speaker drivers must be positioned in flush as close together as possible on the baffle or at a distance governed by the largest speaker drivers.
- The speaker drivers can also be aligned sideways in a row to suit TV/monitor applications using our proprietary technology that enable this variation.
Q: How is the compensation circuitry implemented in the product?
A: The compensation circuitry is either implemented by analogue discrete standard components or in DSP where we supply the source code to be implemented to any DSP chosen by the manufacturer. (Additional costs may apply for certification of the source code implementation). There are also platforms that already have ported our code such as the digital amp manufacturer D2Audio.
Q: How much does a license cost? I’m representing a manufacturer.
A: The license model is based on a one time signing fee and a royalty fee per unit based on a percentage fixed in USD of a defined market price of the product with the technology onboard. Please contact sales@embracingsound.com for further info on specific inquiries.
Q: Where can I buy a product with EmbracingSound™ onboard of my own?
A: We do not supply/sell units for other purposes than the evaluation of our technology by manufacturers that have shown interest in becoming a licensee.
